LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR VARGRAVE RICHARDS INVITES PUBLIC TO BOOK SIGNING
BY HAMILTON SCHOLARS
Lieutenant Governor Vargrave Richards invites the public to a book
signing on THURSDAY, JULY 8, 2004, featuring visiting scholars who have
extensively researched and published books on the life of Alexander
Hamilton. The event begins at 5 p.m. at Undercover Books in Gallows
Bay, St. Croix.
The book signing, spearheaded by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor
and underwritten by Shoreline Management Group LLC, will kick off a
series of events spearheaded by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor
to highlight the boyhood years that Hamilton spent on the island of
St. Croix.
This event features the nation's foremost scholars on the life of Alexander
Hamilton, who will be present to discuss and sign their books. The distinguished
authors and their books include: Mr. Richard Brookhiser, "Alexander
Hamilton: American;" Dr. Joanne Freeman, "Affairs of Honor"
and "Hamilton: Writings;" Dr. Stephen Knott, "Alexander
Hamilton and the Persistence of Myth;" and Mr. Vincent Hubbard,
"Swords, Ships, and Sugar: A History of Nevis." The featured
works are currently in stock at Undercover Books.
"This is an eminently important event for St. Croix. These scholars
are renowned in their expertise on Alexander Hamilton. It is an ideal
opportunity for the public to share in the dialogue on a piece of history
that, to date, has been minimally explored - namely, Hamilton's youthful
experiences and their effect on the formation of his character and later
life path," Lieutenant Governor Richards stated.
The visiting authors will also be presenting their scholarly papers
at the upcoming conference, entitled "HAMILTON: THE FORMATIVE YEARS,"
taking place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2004, at Government
House in Christiansted. The conference is open to the public.
